The Construction Industry Institute (CII), based at the University of Texas at Austin, is a consortium of more than 100 leading owner, engineering-contractor and supplier firms from both the public and private markets. These organizations have joined together to enhance the business effectiveness and sustainability of the capital facility life cycle through CII research, related initiatives and industry alliances. A learning organization with a wealth of knowledge and information, CII is unique in the engineering and construction industry.
Faithful+Gould will be represented at the Board of Advisors meeting by Paul Wood, President and Managing Director, and Jonathan Marshall, Senior Vice President. The CII Board of Advisors is the governing body of the institute, which ensures that CII performs research activities that are of high priority to us, and our clients. Faithful+Gould has had an active role on the Board for more than five years.
"Our involvement with CII and our seat on the Board of Advisors allows Faithful+Gould to make our mark on the entire construction industry."
Jonathan Marshall, Faithful+Gould's Senior Vice President
Jonathan commented, "Our involvement with CII and our seat on the Board of Advisors allows Faithful+Gould to make our mark on the entire construction industry. Working together with our clients and other partner organizations we are able to share our voice in the development of research topics and areas of focus that can be applied to construction projects in many different sectors. Our involvement has helped us in the development of our own best practices in areas such as partnering and benchmarking, as well as safety.”
Along with our Board of Advisors involvement, Faithful+Gould is also active on several of CII's communities of practice and research teams. Research teams work for two years, and are then called to present at the CII Annual Conference and possibly incorporated into a CII best practice/knowledge area.
Following the Board of Advisors meeting, CII will hold a Performance Improvement Workshop (PIW). The PIWs provide information on CII practices, implementation case studies, training in the development of applicable skills and the opportunity to network.
"My participation in this presentation will highlight the recent alliance between the Construction Management Association of America and CII..."
Tim Hannaway, Faithful+Gould's Technical Director
Tim Hannaway, technical director, will be co-presenting on the Construction Management Standards of Practice (CMSOP). The CMSOP provides the construction industry with a common understanding of the scope and content of professional CM practice. This presentation will place the CMSOP in the context of actual industry practice. The SOP itemizes the specific services a CM is expected to provide, along with general guidance as to how each service should be delivered.
In this session, Tim and co-presenters Bob Hixon, PE, CCM, LEED® AP, Director of Government Services at McDonough Bolyard Peck; and Michelle Kayon, Director of Project Management for the Architect of the Capital; will help place the CMSOP within the context of actual CM practice.
Tim said, "My participation in this presentation will highlight the recent alliance between the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and CII, which are each dedicated to improving construction performance and outcomes in the delivery of capital facilities through proven industry best practices."
The performance improvement workshop is open to CII members and non-members.
