Aspiring to Excellence in the APC

It’s been another great year for Faithful+Gould’s APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) candidates. As usual we had a strong mix of quantity surveyors, building surveyors and project managers. In the twelve months to the May 2012 sitting our 24 candidates achieved a pass rate of 88%. This is 20 points above the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) national equivalent.

At Faithful+Gould we pride ourselves on an open and transparent approach to our APC, telling it like it is. Below are our results for the past five years. Whilst we are delighted with our five-year average of 80%, well above the RICS national equivalent, our aim is to continue to improve and our biggest challenge is the distribution of our candidates.

We have an even spread of candidates across the UK, from Edinburgh to Oxford, Belfast to Tunbridge Wells and we believe the key to success is to bring them together, to interact and support each other through discussion groups and study sessions.

Our team of national and local APC coordinators, together with our supervisors, counsellors and not forgetting the candidates, are looking forward to another challenging, but successful year on our APC programme.

We have a dedicated APC community site on our intranet, but there is nothing like getting people together face to face. So, over the coming year, we have a big drive to implement a more consistent programme of study sessions across our four regions. We’re already running successful programmes in some areas and we need to ensure our success is distributed evenly across the business.

We expect candidates to get qualified just as soon as is practicable. We are always looking to improve our performance, but this is not just about percentages, it’s about excellence!
