Brian Clennell Appointed as Chair of Teesside RICS Group

Kimberley Workman
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has appointed Brian Clennell as its new chairman of the Teesside Local Association (LA).

Brian, who’s worked for SNC Lavalin’s Faithful+Gould business – a leading project and programme management consultancy – for over 20 years, replaces Craig Chapman as Chairman, who recently took up a new role in Saudi Arabia.

The RICS Teesside LA was established four years ago as a support network for local professionals in the land, property and construction sectors. It delivers a range of well-attended, low-cost seminars, CPD sessions and networking activities, enabling industry professionals to increase their knowledge and skill set and make valuable business contacts along the way.

"I’m really looking forward to working together with the committee to deliver a range of insightful CPD sessions and networking events, of interest to all those at different stages of their career, including trainees."

As a chartered quantity surveyor with over 30 years’ experience in the industry, Brian, who is a regional director based at Faithful+Gould’s Stockton Office, has a vast wealth of experience across many property sectors, and has delivered some of Teesside’s biggest projects for the region’s largest investors including Northumbrian Water, Northern Gas Networks and GlaxoSmithKline.

As a former committee member, coupled with his industry expertise and leadership skills, Brian is ideally placed to steer the committee, starting with developing a diverse programme of topical knowledge sessions and networking activities.

Brian will also work with the committee to encourage firms in the land, property and construction sectors to support a campaign, known as Pledge150 – launched as part of RICS’s 150th anniversary this year – which aims to raise £2.25 million for the provision of 150 bed spaces across all 12 UK regions by December 2018, for young people at risk of homelessness.

Commenting on his appointment, Brian said: “I am delighted to accept the role of Chair of the RICS Teesside Local Association. I’m really looking forward to working together with the committee to deliver a range of insightful CPD sessions and networking events, of interest to all those at different stages of their career, including trainees.

“It is our hope with this programme of events that we will help ensure local industry professionals have the skills, knowledge and contacts to keep up with changes in the market place, and collaborate more on local projects where possible.”
