Employee Engagement: Reward and Recognition

Mark Donlan
Individual contributions to a company's digital exposure are often overlooked but they should be recognised and rewarded in much the same manner as other business development activities.

As a people-driven business we focus on ensuring our people, our most important resource, are fulfilling their potential and showcasing their expertise. We have made a conscious decision to empower our employees – providing them with a voice and a platform to speak from. This puts every single one of our people on the front line, allowing us to actively demonstrate, what we call, our constructive expertise.

We encourage you to reach out, speak to our employees and benefit from their expertise.

We believe this provides us with a real differentiator in our marketplace – real people, delivering real added value – not just promises in a glossy bid document. We encourage you to reach out, speak to our employees and benefit from their expertise.

I recently talked about the importance of employee engagement and we are looking to build on the positive progress made to date. Our Performance Dashboard has initially provided employees with the opportunity to create a digital profile and made visible how much exposure the content they have authored is earning - the amount of time people have spent reading it. This earned exposure is then benchmarked against colleagues from across the entire business, giving individuals and management an indication of relative performance.

Our next phase takes this a step further and provides our employees with access to even more relevant data – allowing them to view statistics specific to their particular location. This provides individuals and management with an indication of local trends and popular content. A little healthy competition between colleagues and offices is surprisingly effective in the generation of high quality, relevant content!

Ultimately we are encouraging every one of our employees to get involved and at the same time we are creating a feedback loop. The more we talk, the more data we have to analyse and this enables us to provide our audience with more useful, tailored content.

It is now easier than ever for us to identify and reward employees who are going above and beyond.

By empowering our employees to create their own content we are able to highlight how their individual efforts impact on the success of the business as a whole. In terms of recognising an individual’s contribution to our collective voice, it is now easier than ever for us to identify and reward employees who are going above and beyond.

This innovative approach has recently seen Faithful+Gould named as an Investors in People 2016 finalist in the category: Excellence in Reward and Recognition. To recognise the value that our employees add through thought leadership, we have invited our top contributors to the awards dinner on 29th June at Old Billingsgate in London. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
