A team from Faithful+Gould’s Nottingham office has completed a key cost role in the £60m plant overhaul of Total’s Lindsey Oil Refinery in Immingham, North Lincolnshire.
The refinery is Britain’s third largest, with a processing capacity of more than 10 million barrels per annum, and employs 500 people. The Faithful+Gould team fulfilled the cost estimating, cost management and contract management roles as part of a joint Total/Faithful+Gould team.
Around 20 large contracts and over 100 smaller contacts were managed with values up to £10m involving lump sum, measured work and reimbursable contracts. Three main contractors – AMEC, Mitsui-Babcock and Motherwell Bridge Engineering – handled a high value of the work carried out.
The Faithful+Gould team, which included Brian Wade, Brian Dunn and Colin Black, worked through an extremely intensive but successful programme to maintain the cost management schedule. Faithful+Gould used its TASCS and PICTURE software in conjunction with the client’s SAP corporate software to handle hundreds of daily timesheets and variation orders to enable monitoring of work against each cost centre, and analysis of total daily liabilities. This in turn enabled confident forecasting of costs to be made in addition to the prime constructive function of highlighting controllable problems to the T&I Manager.
Brian Wade said: "Everything about this project was significant, including the number of people involved and the number of contracts managed but the joint team rose to the challenge superbly."
