The plant is the result of a partnership between Chevron Energy Solutions and Keenan Development and is the first energy project established through the Department of Defense's enhanced-use leasing authority which enables private companies to develop non-excess military property for mission enhancing and marketable long-term uses. Chevron and Keenan will up to lease up to 10 acres for this power facility.
The new, energy efficient plant will deliver highly reliable steam, chilled water and stand-by emergency power to the National Interagency Biodefense Campus. The plant will support some of the highest level bio-safety containment laboratories in the world including the national Institute of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Integrated Research Facility, the Department of Homeland Security’s National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases and Fort Detrick’s Steam Sterilization Plant.
This project resulted from a relationship through Faithful+Gould’s Minneapolis office. The plant is scheduled for completion in early 2008.
