Following the completion of 500,000 man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) on the Far East Corporation head office building in Shanghai in April 2016, we celebrated another landmark achievement in August 2016 for completing 1 million man-hours without any LTIs on the Jahwa project in Shanghai's Qingpu district. This accomplishment comes as a result of our commitment to workplace safety, which includes the adoption of strict safety standards, procedures and systems.
To celebrate this milestone, we held an award ceremony at the project site. Senior officials and representatives from the consumer cosmetics' producer attended the event, during which we received a plaque from Jahwa's regional director, Mr Yang, who also gave out commemorative T-shirts to all 600 workers.
I am pleased that our efforts to drive up health and safety standards are being recognised. Throughout our work on the site, we have invested in our team by offering health and safety training and encouraging our workforce to highlight to us any risks they identify straightaway. We now look forward to building on the high standards we have already established at the Jahwa factory and continuing to do all we can to prevent LTI.
Besides, I am grateful towards Jahwa for supporting our quest to create a safe site and also to my project team – led by project manager Eddie Yeoh – for the establishment and enforcement of effective safety measures on the project.
"...we have continued to work closely with contractors to ensure the site is as safe as possible and has the required safety culture to continue to deliver such an outstanding level of performance."
Eddie Yeoh, Faithful+Gould Project Manager
Eddie commented: "It's a credit to everyone on the team that we have successfully completed one million man-hours without LTI. There are a lot of safety risks associated with working on-site – from working at height to moving plant equipment, electricity, lifting operations and the hours spent by the team driving to and from the site to support the projects delivery. As such, we have continued to work closely with contractors to ensure the site is as safe as possible and has the required safety culture to continue to deliver such an outstanding level of performance. Once again, I would like to thank each and every one of the project team for their efforts, and I look forward to a safe completion of the project."
