Our brand new office in Shanghai opened on 29 June 2009.
Nestled in the heart of Shanghai, the office accommodates more than 200 people and lies exclusively on the 22nd floor and part of the 21st floor of Ciro's Plaza.
The office has achieved LEED Silver Certification (Commercial Interiors) for its commitment to environmental sustainability - a first in China for Faithful+Gould and our parent company, Atkins.
The space inspires our people and our clients, and provides ample space for creativity.
Our new office is located in the heart of Shanghai's historical town. It is also close to People Square with the largest subway interchange, The Grand Opera House, Municipal Government office building, museums and Nanjing Lu shopping hub. Its central location grants easy accessibility and great convenience.
Impressive sustainability credentials
LEED certification was the highest priority. LEED is the accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
The LEED systems recognise performance in five areas of human and environmental health:
- sustainable site development,
- water savings,
- energy efficiency,
- materials selection, and
- indoor environmental quality.
Most of the fixtures are specified low flow and use occupancy sensors, which reduce water usage up to 30%.
We have also conserved energy by using windows which balance the amount of natural light and solar heat gain, whilst offering panoramic views of the central city for 90% of occupants.
High efficiency lighting and controls are used to optimise energy reduction, in addition to the natural lighting provided in the office. This is another design element which greatly increases staff productivity. We have also installed dual meters for our power consumption.
"It makes a very pleasant change" said Barry Piper, director at Faithful+Gould, Asia Pacific, "for the last few years we have delivered lots of LEED standard facilities for our clients, including Platinum, but this is the first time we have been asked to deliver such a project for the Atkins Group. This does much to demonstrate to our clients our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility."
In reducing harmful greenhouse gas omissions, the office is smoke-free and equipped with a humidity control to ensure a comfortable setting. Low VOC materials for the adhesives, sealants, paint and carpet contribute to premium indoor air quality, ensuring a healthy workplace.
"In all, these measures reinforce the Group's mission to eliminate any negative impact on the earth" stated Gareth Kirkwood, managing director of Atkins Mainland China, "and the extra mile we go in our journey to achieve environmental preservation".
