One of the principal barriers to the wider adoption of more sustainable design and construction solutions is the perception that they incur substantial additional costs.
Evidence collected by BRE and Faithful+Gould contradicts this assumption. This Information Paper identifies the additional capital costs associated with a range of sustainable and low- or zero-carbon solutions for a primary and secondary school. It demonstrates that significant improvements in the sustainability performance of a building can be achieved at little additional cost.
These data will inform the industry about how to achieve the current Government requirements and also indicate what is required to enable the design and construction of low and zero-carbon schools.
