Our Faithful+Gould team is providing estimating services on the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, which will be the first green building on the National Mall upon completion scheduled for 2015. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 22, 2012.

We are working very closely with the engineering team to correctly build the cost model of the design incorporating many early construction packages, as it evolves through the design phases.

On Wednesday, February 22, President Obama delivered remarks for the groundbreaking ceremony for the NMAAHC at the construction site on 14th Street and Constitution Ave, NW, Washington, D.C.

Attendees of the groundbreaking ceremony include the Smithsonian Institute Secretary Wayne Clough, NMAAHC Director Lonnie G. Bunch, III and Smithsonian Board of Regents Chair France Cordova. The ceremony will also highlight musical performances by the U.S. Navy Band, Denyce Graves and jazz pianist Jason Moran.

Designed by Freelon Adjaye Bond/Smith Group, the NMAAHC will span 370,000 square feet across five acres and is aiming to achieve LEED™ Gold certification. This new museum will be a part of the Smithsonian Institution, which is composed of 19 museums, nine research centers and the National Zoo, making it the world’s largest museum complex and research organization.
