The case study reflected on his experiences of collaboration and relationship management during his recent secondment as acting Cost Manager for the Offshore Wind division at RWE Npower UK.
The conference was chaired by Stephen Blakely, Commercial Projects Director, Infrastructure Projects at Network Rail and included an introduction by RICS Senior Vice President Amanda Clack.
Reflecting on this Andrew said, “The conference certainly got off to a high energy start with RICS Senior Vice President Amanda Clack debuting the new RICS Futures: Our Changing World video which considers the global demand for infrastructure and the role that Chartered Surveyors can play – if you haven’t seen it, I can highly recommend it!”
A debate on the challenges that the sector faces and the opportunities for growth followed, before a variety of presentations and case studies covering various areas from financing and inflation risk, to supply chain integration and asset management, before concluding with a look at the future role of technology in infrastructure and the role data can play in managing and benchmarking projects.
The sectors covered in the debate were equally diverse covering; offshore wind, roads, the London Underground, sewers, airports and rail. Despite the speakers coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, they created a balanced view of the challenges the sector faces with common messages and themes running through them.
Andrew believes that there are areas where we can develop and improve and reduce the challenges. He will be writing about this in due course so please watch this space...
