SNC-Lavalin’s Faithful+Gould business celebrated the groundbreaking for the construction of the new aircraft parking aprons at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

This marks the first in a series of expansion projects under ORD 21, the City of Chicago’s $8.5B comprehensive effort to modernize O’Hare airport. Faithful+Gould provided cost-estimating support for the expansion of Terminal 5, the initial phase of ORD 21. The groundbreaking took place March 20, 2019.

The expansion of 25-year-old Terminal 5 will increase total building area by approximately 350,000 square feet, adding ten new gates and making way for new passenger amenities, airline lounges, concessions spaces and the capacity to comfortably accommodate more travelers by 2021.

“Providing cost estimates that offered realistic expectations for sustainable solutions and improved cost efficiencies during this transformation was our focus,” said Paul Lakin, Business Unit Director, SNC-Lavalin’s Faithful+Gould business. “We celebrate this milestone and look forward to seeing Chicago’s vision for a modern, efficient, accessible airport become a reality.”

ORD 21 is the City of Chicago’s and its airline partners’ $8.5 billion project to modernize O’Hare International Airport with a historic terminal expansion. Terminal 5 is undergoing an upgrade and expansion, while most of Terminal 2 will be demolished and reconstructed to include a new international arrivals facility. Additionally, Terminals 1 and 3 will be renovated.
