SNFCC Opens its Doors to the World

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) officially opens its doors to the world during its four-day celebration event, "Metamorphosis: The SNFCC to the World".

The SNFCC will remain open throughout the festival, presenting an open space of encounter, exploration and experimentation, encompassing over 400 Greek and international artists as well as cultural, sports and educational activities.

The SNFCC has changed the way construction is approached in Greece, and looks set to achieve its objective of stimulating the economy and helping to secure the country's future.

Completed in June of this year, the SNFCC is an outstanding community driven project of national significance. It provides new facilities for the National Library of Greece and Greek National Opera as well as the new Stavros Niarchos Park stretching over 170,000 metre squared.

Our multinational, multi-discipline team worked continuously from initial concept to financial close on the Renzo Piano designed scheme, collaborating across continents to ensure the very best and most highly skilled people were involved to bring the project to its successful conclusion. At its peak, the SNFCC which was one of Europe's largest construction projects in recent years had over 1400 workers across the 25 hectare site.

Whilst the project had some interesting challenges, not least some significant archaeological finds which led to a full excavation as well as various events held during construction such as the 'Dance of the Cranes' last year, its completion brings hope. It has created new jobs and infuses capital to an area which has a challenging economic landscape. The SNFCC has changed the way construction is approached in Greece, and looks set to achieve its objective of stimulating the economy and helping to secure the country's future.
