The recently completed £40m Ysgol Bae Baglan in Neath Port Talbot has been selected by Microsoft to become one of its 2016-2017 Microsoft Showcase Schools. The accolade demonstrates the schools commitment and ambition in tranforming its learning environment and for its use of mobile and cloud technology. Ysgol Bae Baglan is also home to five Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts, which is a title given to staff who have proven their skills and ability in integrating technology into a classroom environment.
Faithful+Gould's Swansea office provided full post contract cost management services and by working closely with our client, the design team and contractor, the project was delivered both within budget and ahead of time.
The 'super school', which took 18 months to construct, opened its door in September to 1,500 pupils and 200 staff and has become one of only 850 Microsoft Showcase schools worldwide and one of only four in Wales.
Ysgol Bae Baglan will work with Microsoft to drive advances in education through the use of technology. It will also support the needs and encourage the use of technology in the local community and mentor other schools. Through the use of cutting edge technology such as tablets and software applications like Microsoft OneNote and Microsoft Cloud, pupils and staff are able to work more collaboratively and access information both inside and outside of the classroom.
"We were delighted to be part of the team that supported the authority with the successful delivery of such a key education project within the locality."
Ceri Jones, Faithful+Gould Regional Director
Ysgol Bae Baglan has replaced a total of four schools in the area including three secondary schools and one primary school. This makes it not only one of the largest schools in the county, but also the largest capital spend education project for F+G's client, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
Swansea office Regional Director Ceri Jones said: "We were delighted to be part of the team that supported the authority with the successful delivery of such a key education project within the locality."
