Faithful+Gould contributed to several aspects of the project's development; not limited to the commercial management aspect of the project's construction phase. They provided investment managers, finance managers, tenancy managers and other consultants the necessary advice to make critical financial decisions in regards to cost matters and contract solutions. A proactive approach to risk and change management was encouraged throughout the project.
The scale of Doha Festival City encompasses over 240,000 square metres with 550 outlets, 100 restaurants and cafes, the first of its kind entertainment zone (VOX Cinemas and a snow park) and approximately 8,000 parking spaces. Phase One of the mall was completed in March 2013, along with the official opening of Qatar's first IKEA.
An independent panel of judges noted that Doha Festival City was a prime financial investment as it is expected to attract a high number of visitors year round and as such will add an influx of jobs to the country’s and region’s employment opportunities; making it undoubtedly the best entrant in its category. The award recognises that the project is a testament to Qatar’s ambitions and its commitment to the development of the retail and entertainment industry in the country and region.
The award was received by Campbell Gray, Managing Director of Faithful+Gould in the Middle East who said: "Faithful+Gould Middle East has seen incredible growth over the past few years. In part due to our strategy to focus on delivering above and beyond for our clients but mostly because as a company we work as a family, committed to success and to ensuring we are providing our employees, our clients, and our partners with an environment that allows growth and collaboration that feeds mutual respect."
Also on hand to receive the award was Mark Ainger, Country Director for Qatar: "Winning Commercial Project of the Year is a reflection on the positive attitude and commitment we have cultivated internally and externally. Michael Connor, Associate Director and Commercial Manager on Doha Festival City, demonstrated excellent key account management and his commitment to this project has been instrumental in its success. While the Qatar construction market has been undoubtedly challenging in 2016, we have given considerable attention to ensuring all elements are in place for delivering on Doha Festival City and in the lead-up to 2022. The award confirms Faithful+Gould's position as one of the top consultants in the region."
