Ballater Old Royal Station

Faithful+Gould was commissioned by Aberdeenshire Council to provide cost management on this £3.4million restoration project.

The restoration of Ballater Royal Station has been one of the most significant projects in Ballater’s history. Ballater Station was a key visitor attraction for Ballater prior to the devastating fire of 2015 where an estimated 90% of the building was destroyed. We restored the building to its former glory with the final completed build seamlessly fitting back into its surroundings.

“Being able to see the building presented in the town is a landmark moment. I’m very excited – it’s been a privilege and an honour to run a project of this significance, not just in terms of the building itself, but also in terms of the connection the building has with the community who have been with us throughout the project."

The station is a crucial part of the community and to the local economy, which includes a tourist information centre, restaurant and tearoom, public library and the Royal waiting room and carriage. The past three years have been extremely challenging for local people and businesses but 2018 brought renewed optimism with the reopening of its most important historic building and tourist attraction.
