Newcastle City Council - Exhibition Park

The Exhibition Park project involved the restoration of a 14ha site in the heart of the city of Newcastle. The park had suffered from a lack of any real investment over several decades, the tree lined Sorbus avenue approaching the former Palace of Arts was dying, the Grade II listed bandstand had been poorly repaired and the buildings were becoming unusable due to lack of maintenance, damp and rot.

We provided quantity surveying and multidisciplinary design team services, ensuring careful consideration was given to the selection of materials to respect the historic city centre setting. The bandstand was meticulously restored, the surrounding area altered to improve access for park users and a comprehensive landscaping and planting scheme finished the area. A new café was constructed and restoration works revived the lake, footpaths, boat house and tennis courts. A play area, outdoor performance space and new skate park completed the works.
