Greengate Public Realm

Faithful+Gould was appointed by Salford City Council as project managers on this iconic regeneration project.

Major development plans have been put in place by Salford to accommodate the westward growth of Manchester’s city centre and establishment of a new corporate centre within the Regional Centre. The Greengate Public Realm creates the physical link between the two cities. The public realm comprises two distinct areas; The Urban Cove and the Greengate Link.

The Urban Cove is set to be an excellent visitor attraction, taking advantage of the natural waterside setting with giant sculptures, 36 coloured fountains and an iconic new pedestrian bridge over the River Irwell. The Greengate Link is an attractive pedestrian route which runs beneath and around the existing railway viaduct. As the Greengate Embankment scheme comes forward, the space will be lined with active ground floor units, ample tree planting and lighting columns, it provides a welcoming space to walk through.
