Lancaster University - Engineering Building

Faithful+Gould was appointed as project manager and employer's agent on the £12.25 million Engineering Building, which was designed to provide around 4750 square metres of space for the department, distributed over four floors, providing flexible office, workshop and lab space.

The new building is situated within the southern half of the Lancaster campus, replacing the old sports centre. A significant factor of the project is the building's integration with both the existing campus and the future vision of the proposed master plan. Equally important is the sustainable performance and credentials of the project, and its contribution to the wider aims of the University in environmental terms.

The Engineering Building has taken a string of awards, including: Best Small Project up to £10 million at the 2015 British Construction Industry Awards, both the Sustainability and Regional Award at the 2015 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) North West Awards, and Highly Commended for Innovation at the 2015 North West Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards. A design stage BREEAM 2011 New Construction "Outstanding" has been formally awarded by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), with the final construction stage award pending.
