SEW-Eurodrive is the recognised market leader of drive engineering, now stretching across five continents and employing over 14,000 people, with a turnover of €1.5 billion.
This £12 million project involved the relocation of SEW’s workforce from their existing dated and inefficient accommodation into a new high quality office (3,000m2) and assembly hall (7,600m2) building to reflect new technologies and working arrangements. One of the main features is the atrium space which separates the office building and assembly warehouse and acts as a 'chimney effect' to support the natural ventilation with night time cooling for the offices. Sustainability was a prevalent throughout the design and other element such as ground and air source heat pumps and solar panels were all utilised to enhance the buildings green credentials.
Appointed to deliver project management, quantity surveying and CDMC services, our team of professionals successfully led the project team including the client's appointed design team and monitoring the design and build contractor's design consultants. Our proactive approach ensured that we were the go-to people for the UK and German SEW internal management teams.
Our management of the design and procurement process ensured that SEW’s aspirations in terms of quality, budget and programme were achieved. As part of the process we facilitated value engineering and value management processes with the preferred contractor resulting in savings in the order of £450,000. We were also responsible for preparing and completing design consultant appointments incorporating novation agreements for the major design disciplines. The project recently won the RICS Pro Yorkshire Award 2014 for best commercial property.
