Faithful+Gould is providing project management, construction management and cost management from preconstruction through commissioning for a new, approximately $100-million inline baggage screening facility at Newark Liberty International Airport.
This new, 70,000-square-foot baggage building, consisting of a three-story bag room to house 10 CTX screening machines and almost a mile of baggage conveyors, will provide security screening of all checked baggage at the terminal.
Re-routing conveyors, while maintaining the operations of this international airline hub, presented a major challenge during the design phase. It became evident that the existing international inbound systems could not be maintained without at least two of the belts being relocated or phased construction of the structure. A value engineering exercise created room in the budget to relocate the inbound feed belts permanently as a first step; avoiding the need for relocation and allowing for future flexibility.
