Porcelanosa - Americas Flagship Store

Faithful+Gould provided full project management services for Porcelanosa, a world-renowned ceramic wall and floor tile manufacturer, as it converted a landmark property in the Flatiron District in New York City into a "white glove" retail environment, which will serve as the client's flagship U.S. location.

This involved the conversion of a 15,000-square-foot, six-story building on 5th Avenue into a seven-story building by reallocating open air space. The building is included in New York's protected properties list as a landmark property. To accommodate these unique circumstances, the design team at Foster+Partners worked to preserve the exterior of the building, while refurbishing the interior to suit its new purpose as a showroom.

Beyond the main space, the design features a beautiful design library with more than 1,000 references of tiles, mosaics, stones, hardwoods and other fine materials. The building also includes an atrium effect on the ground floor with open floors to the cellar and second floor. The LEED® certified project space is completed with designated office space, meeting rooms, a training area and an outdoor rooftop space.

Faithful+Gould was initially brought on board by the client to conduct an independent due diligence audit of the design and construction progress, specifically focusing on issues relating to budget, scheduling, phasing, constructability, construction protocol and procedures. This included both cost management and design management work with consultants to rectify scope gaps identified in the due diligence report. The result was a complete and coordinated set of documents that allowed the contractor to fully understand the high design standards required for the work.
