The Stephenson Quarter development, located next to Newcastle's Central Station, will transform 10 acres close to the city centre bringing commercial, residential, retail and hotel facilities to regenerate this derelict area. The first £43 million phase is about to start on site, thanks to the determination of the developer, Silverlink, and their confidence in the project which has unlocked funding from a variety of sources including the Local Enterprise Partnership and the City Council.
Faithful+Gould has been working on the project since 2007 providing Silverlink with project management, CDM-C and commercial services. We have made a significant contribution to the project reaching this milestone by successfully dealing with difficult issues relating to the site, including archaeological digs (Robert Stephenson's engine works was located on the site), party wall and rights to light issues together with managing and controlling a fixed budget.
The first phase is currently on site and includes the construction of a 4*plus Crowne Plaza hotel, conference centre and multi-storey car park. The hotel boasts 251 beds over seven floors and a 400 seat conference centre. The redevelopment of this prime location is the largest commercial project currently being undertaken in Newcastle with a vision to create a high quality mixed use development with a total potential value of £200 million.
